Body & Hip Movement 101

Welcome! 👋

The NUMBER ONE question I get asked most often is:

"Mark, I feel like a robot when I'm dancing — I'm stiff like a board. How can I relax and move my body/hips more naturally when I dance?"

So in today's quick lesson, I'm going to show you a simple technique to start moving your hips and body, so you feel less stiff when you're dancing!

I'll also show you how to adapt this fundamental technique for both female and male dancers.

IMPORTANT: Mastering hip movement takes time and practice.

Please don't expect this to feel 'natural' or to become a master after just one lesson!

The goal of today's lesson is to give you a solid understanding of HOW to move your body and hips in Bachata, so you can start to slowly practice it in your basic steps.

Here's the plan for today's lesson:

Today's lesson is made up of 3 short videos:

  • The first video shows the core technique of how to move your hips in Bachata (and other latin dances).

  • The second video shows a slightly more advanced, and more feminine, hip movement for the ladies.

  • Finally, the third video is for the guys. It talks about how to move your body in a more masculine way when you're dancing.

If you struggle moving your hips, don't worry — you're not alone!

This was such a big struggle for many of my students, that I created a special in-depth, step-by-step,follow-along40-minute Masterclass For Mastering Hip Movement as part of my Solo Bachata Mastery Course.

My goal was to create a comprehensive training to take youfrom feeling stiff and awkward to knowing EXACTLY how to move your hips, arms and body so you look like a natural on the dance floor.

REMINDER: Hip Movement Is NOT Natural.

It's a common myth that moving your hips should come naturally, and if it doesn't, then something must be wrong with you...

Well, that is absolute NONSENSE!

I've taught thousands of people to dance, and I can tell you right now:

Hip movement does NOT come naturally to MOST people.

Learning to move your hips when dancing is a skill that can be learned with proper explanation and practice — and it can be challenging when you just start out.

So, don't despair if you don't get it right away.

Keep on practicing, and if you need additional help — come join us inside the Solo Bachata Mastery Course!

Congratulations!

Yay — you did it!!!

I hope you enjoyed today's quick videos.

Just remember:

Mastering hip movement takes time and practice, so don't worry if you feel awkward, or you can't do it while dancing.

That's normal!

The key is to keep practicing until the movements become muscle memory and you don't have to think about them anymore.

It's like learning how to drive:

At first, you're so focused on which pedal to press that you can't think about anything else...

But soon, you become SO comfortable that you can drive, switch lanes, play music, and chat—all at the same time—without a hitch.

So keep practicing, and eventually you'll build the muscle memory needed to feel confident and comfortable when dancing.

See you next time!

Cheers,

Mark "The Hip Whisperer" Shpuntov
